A overdue post, and one which i am making after another late-night deep thinking round
and here it is.
lately, i've been trying to find which is right, evolution or creationism, christianity or...non-christianity.
here's an argument i formulated-when-stumbling-upon-something-relatedtoit which convinced me that there was a creator.
Question what laws are made up from? how do the formulate? Very simply, by morals, by conscience, we judge what is right or wrong, hence setting up laws. Now if you look all around the world, despite the differences in the laws of many countries, you will find that ultimately, the laws condemn the same crimes. Murder, robbery, assault, harm to another person.
Now how did this conscience come about? How is it, that countries, people from ALL around the world have such similar morals and conscience meters? The only logical conclusion i can draw out is there was someone to differentiate what was right or wrong.
I don't know if i've convinced you, but for this moment, just this few seconds, will yourself to believe in god. close your eyes, lie on the floor and think of him as someone omnipresent, who can listen to you wherever you are.
Now speak to him, you don't need to treat him as your great benefactor. I treated and spoke to him on the same level as a friend. I felt a sense of calm, maybe even happiness, and i had some faith that God did exist.
I watched a video on the root of evil, a documentary by Richard Dawkins. I searched some wikipedia links and realised one thing
Just because everyone around the world has around the same moral values, the same consicence meter...guess what. That doesn't mean there is a creator, that DOESN'T MEAN THERE IS A GOD. It simply means that it is possible that some force or another, gave us the same conscience/moral values. It does not mean there was a creator or whatever, all that means is that something gave us the same conscience/moral values.
Or, it could be but by random chance. It could be that in actual fact, moral values around the world differed heavily, but as people took over each other, people killed each other, these moral values settled down into the same thing somewhat. Many things can be created or lost through the passage of time.
I realise that faith might not be blind belief, but it is nearly that. It is a process of non-thinking. Yes, some christians question their faith, but often, if not always, they are subconciously searching for the answer that moves towards their faith.
There have been biblical archaelogical evidences, to support the bible. The Holy Book that is true. So says the christians, so says the islams, so says the muslims, so says the jews. Faith plays an integral role throughout. There might be evidences, but ever thought that these evidences COULD BE FAKED. In Science, you can fake evidence, but it is all too EASILY EXPOSED. Theories are supposed to work in the past, as well as in the present.
biblical evidences? there is no need. A simple rewrite, a simple republish. Behold, the earth is round, and the catholics who said the earth is square is wrong. Traditions, generations of beliefs, influencing many people, EVERY people of a particular religion. Children are indoctrinated, before they have independent thinking. Through "group solidarity", false is taken as truth.
This argument was used against me before, but right now i find it helpful in formulating the argument. When you are young, before you are able to think for yourself, what allowed you to sit on the chair? My answer as that probably my eyes had seen my parents sitting down and hence, thought it was safe. The analogy is that, the "sitting down" is "believing in God". Hence, you believed in your parent's judgement to sit down, in the same way christians have faith in their parents belief
When you are a small child unable to think for yourself, you treat what is told to you as right, as a fact, a truth despite not having any evidence to back it up with. You are unable to think for yourself, therefore you believe in whatever you are told to.
What happens to christians who becomes that, even though they might not have been of a christian upbringing, is a return to the stage where they accept what is given. No doubt, some are truly convinced by some of christianity's arguments, but i believe if they were to research further, if they could keep an open mind like me, who was previously partly convinced, they would back out of it.
Look at the examples in this documentary
great linkThe assumption of mary. catholics believe jesus's mother was so important her body shot off to heaven when she died, WAS MADE UP, 600 YEARS after jesus' time. And right now, catholics believe in it as a fact. Can anyone disprove this? No. Can anyone prove it? No.
How does the bigbang come about then? Simply put, science cannot answer it, AS OF NOW. Science couldn't prove that the earth was round in the past, does that mean it was square in the past? No. Just because science is unable to prove something, doesn't mean it cannot prove that thing in the future, or that an alternative viewpoint based on trust is correct.
Alright, god may exist, allah may exist, prophet muhammad may exist. they MAY exist. as of now, the different beliefs are currently causing the deaths of thousands of people, are churning out hatred among the religions. Mankind is enclosing his mind, only allowing one god to be in there, one god which may exist.
Mutual tolerance might be advocated in Singapore right now, but who's to say what will happen if say, a superpower like the US completely becomes of Christian belief. Will we become forced to be a christian state then, due to politics, fear of power, etcetc?
When i think of all these, i close my eyes, lie down on my back and attempt to speak to God, i feel like an ass.
